Comparing Bayesian Posterior Passing with Meta-analysis

چکیده
Brand, von der Post, Ounsley, and Morgan (2019) introduced Bayesian posterior passing as an alternative to traditional meta-analyses. In this commentary I relate their procedure meta-analysis, showing that is equivalent fixed effects meta-analysis. To overcome the limitations of simple passing, introduce improved methods account for heterogeneity publication bias. Additionally, practical role it can play in future research are discussed.

Bayesian Posterior Prediction and Meta-Analysis: An Application to the Value of Travel Time Savings
In the evaluation of transportation infrastructure projects, some nontradable goods such as time are usually key determinants of the result. However, obtaining monetary values for these goods is not always easy. For this purpose, this paper presents an approach that combines Bayesian posterior prediction and meta-analysis. This methodology will allow obtaining predictive distributions of the mo...
متن کاملBayesian network meta-analysis comparing five contemporary treatment strategies for newly diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukaemia
Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a curable subtype of acute myeloid leukemia. The optimum regimen for newly diagnosed APL remains inconclusive. In this Bayesian network meta-analysis, we compared the effectiveness of five regimens-arsenic trioxide (ATO) + all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), realgar-indigo naturalis formula (RIF) which contains arsenic tetrasulfide + ATRA, ATRA + anthracycline-...
متن کاملMeta-analysis of trials comparing antidepressants with active placebos.
BACKGROUND Unblinding effects may introduce bias into clinical trials. The use of active placebos to mimic side-effects of medication may therefore produce more rigorous evidence on the efficacy of antidepressants. METHOD Trials comparing antidepressants with active placebos were located. A standard measure of effect was calculated for each trial and weighted pooled estimates obtained. Hetero...
متن کاملMeta-analysis comparing drug-eluting stents with bare metal stents.
We performed a meta-analysis of 10 randomized trials of 5,066 patients with 6 to 12 months of follow-up. The summary risk differences excluded any major differences between the 2 types of stents for death (0.12%, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.34% to 0.58%, p = 0.60) and overall myocardial infarction (0.04%, 95% CI -0.72% to 0.81%, p = 0.91). There was a modest increase in the risk of Q-wave m...
